B412 FREDERIC COSSARD VdF PINOT NOIR 2023 750ml
[Jura Pinot Noir]
Among Frédéric Cossard’s red wines made from Jura grapes, Lapsus d’Or (Poulsard) has been especially well received so far. This time, we’ve just released a Pinot Noir. Since Lapsus d’Or was a quintessential usuuma-kei, awauma-kei, or dashi-kei style—delicate, airy, and gently savory—we expected this one to follow the same path. But it turned out to be something entirely different.
The wine is made using Cossard’s hallmark whole-bunch fermentation, which is unusual for Jura. It opens with an intensely fruity impression, where notes of amaretto, Dr Pepper, ripe raspberries, and American cherries blend seamlessly together. At first, its concentration and volume can feel a bit overwhelming, but after about twenty minutes, the wine softens and finds its balance. It’s deeply satisfying when savored slowly, yet somehow leaves you wanting another glass.

[Jura Series]
Frédéric Cossard Jura Series: In 2016, Burgundy suffered from frost, resulting in a severe shortage of grapes. Jean-François Ganevat, Frédéric's friend from Jura, helped him find a source of high-quality grapes from Jura. Frédéric Cossard treated these healthy grapes in his manner, producing vivid wines. Red wines were made from whole bunches—a method rarely used in Jura, where grapes are usually de-stemmed—and he also experimented with skin contact for some white wines. The results were satisfactory, leading him to continue the 'Jura series' in subsequent years.
