Domaine de Chassorney - Aurélien Verdet

Frédéric and Laure Cossard owned and managed the vineyards of Saint-Romain, Volnay, Savigny-lès-Beaune, and Hautes-Côtes de Beaune for over twenty years, elevating them to be among the top vineyards in those appellations.

In 2018, Frédéric Cossard appointed his long-time friend Aurélien Verdet as the successor at Domaine de Chassorney, leading to a transition period where they produced wine together. The 2022 vintage marks the first official release produced under the solo leadership of Aurélien Verdet—a milestone signified by the change of the wax cap color to orange, which is Aurélien Verdet's corporate color. 

The wines crafted by Aurélien Verdet have received high acclaim immediately upon release. Based in Arcenant, Verdet is a prominent figure in natural Burgundy; his father, Alain Verdet, was a pioneer who practiced organic farming as early as 1971. Managing classic appellations like Vosne-Romanée, Chambolle-Musigny, and Nuits-Saint-Georges, Aurélien has long held an exceptional reputation for his viticulture, which is precisely why Frédéric Cossard appointed him as his successor. Upon taking over Domaine de Chassorney, Verdet fully embraced Cossard’s winemaking philosophy. However, he is also establishing his own distinct style; while Cossard had recently moved entirely away from oak aging, Verdet has initiated a return to traditional Burgundy barrel aging. Concurrently, he is applying the techniques learned from Cossard, such as whole-cluster fermentation, back to his own namesake estate, Domaine Aurélien Verdet.

Meanwhile, the "FREDERIC COSSARD" labels for Vosne-Romanée, Chambolle-Musigny, and other appellations will continue to be handled by Frédéric and Laure Cossard as usual.
