B400 FREDERIC COSSARD MEURSAULT LA BARRE DESSUS 2023 750ml
Recent Meursaults tend to use less new oak, but in Cossard’s case, it’s zero — they don’t use wooden barrels in their cellar at all (instead, cement egg-shaped tanks, qvevri, and stainless-steel tanks are used), as they don’t want to add any elements to the wine that don’t come from the grapes themselves. No sulfur is added either. Their wines stand out for their remarkable vitality — the fruit seems to stretch out with extraordinary length.
La Barre Dessus is a lieu-dit on the Volnay side, a site that receives plenty of sunlight, allowing the grapes to ripen steadily and fully. The wine shows beautifully integrated ripe fruit from old vines averaging 50 years of age, fine acidity, and minerals drawn from clay‑limestone soils — a truly elegant expression.
