Château Hosanna, a jewel-like vineyard of just 4.5 hectares, is located in the heart of Pomerol’s central plateau, adjacent to some of the most illustrious crus of the appellation: Château Lafleur to the north, Château Pétrus to the east, Château La Fleur-Pétrus to the west, and Vieux Château Certan to the south.

The vineyard enjoys a terroir of red gravel and clay on crasse de fer, which is known for producing wines of great elegance, complexity, and power. Old Cabernet Franc vines, a significant portion of which date back to 1956, contribute a unique complexity to the cru.

A marriage of intensity, purity, and balance, its silky touch has led some to describe Hosanna as the feminine counterpart to Trotanoy. (Moueix home page)

The 2016 Hosanna is a blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. It has a clean, detailed bouquet with truffle-tinged black fruit, fine mineralite and impressive vigor, certainly less opulent than some of the Hosannas from the noughties. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, a masculine Hosanna with fine tension, a little savory with black truffle and white pepper sprinkled liberally over the finish. I would have liked more flesh to show on the finish, although that should develop to an extent during its barrel maturation. Give this three or four years in bottle. RP92-94

The 2016 Hosanna is composed of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. Medium garnet-purple colored, it comes spilling out of the glass with the most beautiful floral perfume of lilacs and lavender over a core of black and red cherries, black raspberries and cedar chest plus hints of tobacco and chocolate mint. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is elegantly styled with beautiful floral and cherry layers framed by velvety tannins, finishing long and fragrant. RP95+
