4438 GERARD SCHUELLER ALSACE PINOT GRIS RESERVE 2016 750ml
Bruno Schueller’s wines are all masterpieces, but each is so individual that it is hard to say which is the best. Well, it would be a bit uncouth to rank them in the first place.
Among them, Pinot Gris Réserve may be the most strikingly distinctive. While the classic Pinot Gris achieves an exquisite balance through a blend of several vineyards, the Réserve is given a firmer structure and tannic depth from clay-rich soils such as Hohrain, making it far more full-bodied, powerful, and complex than the classic cuvée. It is the most weighty wine in Schueller’s entire lineup.
This Pinot Gris Réserve 2016 can be considered a textbook example of the cuvée. Upon release, it displayed an imposing sense of weight and power, with a dense, tightly closed structure that made it somewhat difficult to approach. After more than a decade of aging, it has finally begun to open up, with the elements once compressed within now integrating, softening, and gradually revealing themselves.
