If you love a vibrant, long-lasting bubble, it's a good choice. It boasts a classic Champagne nose where biscuit, pear, and woody hints intertwine. You will find the signature minerality of the region’s Blanc de Blancs, paired with elegant acidity and rich fruitiness. A subtle hint of citrus bitterness provides a lovely accent to the finish.
Le Mesnil-sur-Oger is a Grand Cru village located in the southern part of the Côte des Blancs in Champagne. It is renowned for producing some of the finest Chardonnay, characterized by incisive acidity and a distinctly chalky minerality.
The topsoil is thin, with underlying chalk soils—rich in belemnite fossils from the Cretaceous period—often exposed. This terroir imparts a pronounced mineral character and firm structure to the wines.
The Blanc de Blancs produced from Chardonnay grown here combines remarkable aging potential with refined elegance. While Salon and Krug’s Clos du Mesnil are among the most famous examples, J. L. Vergnon is a family-run domaine that, despite its small scale, crafts Champagnes of notable quality that should not be overlooked.
The majority of the vineyards are planted in the terroir of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, classified as Grand Cru and renowned for Blanc de Blancs. The domaine also owns parcels in the Grand Cru villages of Oger and Avize in the Côte des Blancs, as well as in the neighboring Premier Cru villages of Vertus and Villeneuve.
The vineyards are planted exclusively to Chardonnay, with most vines averaging over 30 years of age. From more than 20 individual parcels, the domaine produces a range of cuvées, including both single-vineyard bottlings and blended wines, each expressing its own distinct character.
